France bans underweight models

The BBC reported on Saturday that a law has come into effect in France after which models will have to provide a doctors certificate to their physical health, with special regard to their body mass index.
French health ministry said the chief aim of the law is to fight eating disorder and inacceasble ideals of beauty.
The law allows  doctors to decide whether a model is too thin considering their weight, age and body shape.
"Exposing young people to normative and unrealistic images of bodies leads to a sense of self-depreciation and poor self-esteem that can impact health-related behaviour," BBC quoted  France's Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Marisol Touraine as saying.

The law also makes it  mandatory to mark the photos where  model’s appearance has been manipulated  “retouched photograph”.
